Punch Bowl Social – The American
Punch Bowl Social is fairly new to the Schaumburg area. The mini-chain originated in Denver, CO and now boast a couple of locations throughout the country. If you’re familiar with the old John Barleycorn location then you know exactly where this spot is (it was completely remodeled for this restaurant). The restaurant features 2 different bowling areas, karaoke, darts, arcade games, and multiple dining areas. If you looking for a fun spot to relax with friends or family, this is a spot to consider. Now as for the burger, I have but one word, American.
My visit to Punch Bowl was on a sunny Sunday and we were able to enjoy the spacious outdoor patio. I’ll be honest in saying that this review almost didn’t happen. The reason being that it was pretty early in the day and I was in the mood for breakfast. So after ordering a coffee I began to look over the menu. That’s when I saw it. Two 4 oz beef patties, bacon jam, mayo spread, Bibb lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese. The American is one hell of a burger. Needless to say, I chose to skip breakfast that day. The beef was very juicy, full of flavor, and melted in my mouth. Add in the melted American cheese and it’s a heavenly combination. The pickle crown secured to the bun with a knife was also a nice touch. If you look at the attached picture you’ll notice a large cast iron skillet being used as my plate. I’m pretty sure they do this more so because any normal plate would crumble from the weight and less to do with ambiance.
